I’M 42 I JUST HAD AN ULTRASOUND AND A CAT SCAN DONE FOR A TUMOR WHICH IS ATTACHED TO MY OVARY. NOW I WAS SENT FOR A BLOOD TEST TO SEE IF I HAVE CANCER. ISN’T THIS THE FIRST THING THAT SHOULD BE CHECKED? MY DOCTOR TOLD ME I HAVE A DUBROID TUMOR WHICH IS 7CM. SHE TOLD ME I NEED SURGERY RIGHT AWAY AND MAYBE A HYSTERECTOMY. I TOLD HER I WANTED THE MOST MINOR SURGERY POSSIBLE.MY SYMPTOMS ARE MINOR LOWER BACK PAIN, PRESSURE, AND FATIGUE.MY DECISION IF IT IS CANCER IS TO DO NOTHING. IF IT IS NOT SHE SAID THESE TUMORS TEND TO TURN AND GET PAINFUL. WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN FIBROID AND DUBROID AND DOES IT NEED TO COME OUT IMMEDIATELY.

Dear JR-
Dermoids and fibroids are completely different tumors.
Dermoids can turn malignant and should be removed. We recommend removal of the tumor itself, but save the ovary.
The blood test drawn to indicate cancer has many false positive readings, and is not always accurate. The Scan will give the doctors an idea of the make up or components of your tumor, allowing for a more accurate diagnosis.
I would recommend removing your dermoid but saving your organs if no cancer is detected.
Good Luck
