Hello, my question is what can be done if my insurance will not cover the lupron shot and since i had a stroke birth control /deprovara is not an option for my treatment? Also can endomitriosis lead to any form of cancer? I had leukemia when i was age 2 to age 8 and have been cured for some years i am now age 34 just curious…I have extreme pain all the time not just with my menstral cycle and would really like an answer to this..my ob/gyn doesn’t give me any hope of solving this problem Help….

Dear Kimberly-
Lupron is not a long term answer for endometriosis. You should have surgery…at age 34 this disease will continue to spread until the implants are removed from your pelvis or you reach menopause. This could means years of suffering, without treatment. Many patients can get long term relief from this disease in the hands of a good surgeon.I would seek out a second opinion.
Endo does not lead to cancer.
Good luck

I have had laproscopy surgery back on Jan 8th 2003 and was back in the hospital on Nov.3rd 2003 this time with increased pain as well as prolonged bleeding( i had been bleeding since Aug and it hadn’t stopped when I was admitted into the hospital) Upon admittion into the hospital it was determined that my back pain was due to my gall bladder being diasesed so they removed my gall bladder but did nothing about the bleeding saying it was probablly endemetrosis and I should see my gyn. I went to my gyn and all she did was put my on ortha evera patch and sent me on my way. I had diarrhea for 5 straight weeks assumed it was gastro related put myself on a gluten free diet thinking maybe I had celiac diases and sought a gastrologist. My bloodwork showed a elevation in my white blood count so I was put on antibiotics for 15 days and they did a CT scan of my chest ( i was having chest pains as well) abdomin and pelvis. I am due to get a colonoscopy sometime next week but I am now convinced that the endometriosis never was completly removed and now is getting worse. I own my own business and the pain is so unbearable I have to cut my hrs at work just to cope. I need to know if you know anyone in the philadelphia area that does this same procedure or are you the only hospital preforming this procedure. I am 33yrs and single with no children I would like to someday have children but if that isn’t possible I just want to be healthy again.

Dear Jennifer-
Heavy and prolonged bleeding maybe associated with Adenomyosis, which is uterine endometriosis. If left untreated, the disease will spread throughtout your uterus. Traditional gynecology will usually only offer hysterectomy for this disease, we here at the Institute perform a laser excision with uterine reconstruction. The surgery will remove your pain and heavy bleeding, but sparing fertility is not always possible. I would definitely seek out a second opinion…if you have either Adeno or Endometriosis, hormonal therapy is not the answer. Surgery is necessary to relief the pain and reduce the spread of the disease
