I am 23 and have been having problems with my periods for the past 2-3 years. It has been found ofter a laproscomy and ultrasound that I have two growths one on each of my ovaries. One is between 8-9 cm and the other is 5-6 cm. My gynacologist is unsure as to exactly what they are. All of the tests that they have ran have come back normal, there is no sign that they are cancerous etc. I suffer with severe abdominal pain which cripples and heavy bleeding. I have had a marina coil fitted which has been in place for nearly three months. At the moment I have been told that my options are to wait and see if they change/grow/disappear or to have surgery which might end with having my ovaries removed (whether partial or full).

I am completley unsure as what course of action to take. Please advise.

Dear Lunik-
There is absolutely no reason to have your ovaries removed, especially at your age. I would recommend a laparotomy to remove the cysts with a laser assist, and reconstruct your ovaries. You may also want to have a hormone panel drawn to assess the level and balance of your hormones. Do not let anyone remove your ovaries unless these cysts are malignant.

Hi,
I have had my periods consecutively 4 times.
This started about the time i started to do some exercises.(basically leg raises, riding on the stationary bike, a few sit-ups etc.)I don’t know if there is a connection though. my periods come,
for a normal course, stops for 3-4 days and then starts back up again. Please give me some ideas or advice. I am really frightened that it is something serious.

Dear Anna-
There could be several reasons why you are cycling abnormally..most likely your exercise routine is not one of them. You should schedule an appointment with your gyn for a exam…you may have polyps, fibroids or a hormone imbalance. Skipping birth control pills can also effect normal menstrual cycles.
Dont delay….see your doctor.
