Dear Dr.
I was just at my Dr. he told me my uterus is twice the size it should be. He feels it is Fibroids, but has scheduled an internal ultrasound. Could this be fybroids and if it is will it involve being a hysterectomy? My menses is heavy first 3-4 days. Just started cramping in the past 6months ( cramps tolerable). I do experience stress incontinence and if i drink “normal amounts of fluids” im ususally in the bathroom every hour. (or less) I did have tenderness when the dr. pushed on my abdomen. I am 37 had 5 children. Hope you can answer this question. Thanks Eileen

Dear Eileen-
Most likely your ultrasound will show fibroid tumors. You have the classic signs-heavy period, cramps and urinary frequency. I do not advocate hysterectomies for fibroids. These are bengin tumors that can be safely removed, preserving the uterus. You are far too young to have a hysterectomy-please read the website on the complications of the procedure. We can help you with our FAS procedure-please call the office if you are interested.

I am 41 and my womb is the size of a woman that
is 4 months pregnant-I am a heavy bleeder and I
am anemic. My doctor has recommended a hysterectomy.

Dear Mickant-
You did not ask any questions, however I will respond by saying there is not need to have a hysterectomy. Whatever pathology you may have can be safely removed, and your uterus reconstructed. Please read the section on the website about hysterectomy complications-it may apply to you.

MY question is, ultrasound shows that my uterus has enlarged since last ultrasound 1 yr ago.
Have been taking prempro for 2 yrs. I am 47 yrs old. No menses x 2yrs.Could prempro cause this enlargment?
Dr did a uterine biopsy and awaitng result
What are some of the reasons for endometrial thickening?
Prempro seems to to blame for dense breast tissue
Had endometriosis most of my adult life.

Dear Ruthy-
Prempro would not be responsible for your enlarged uterus. An enlarged uterus can be associated with adenomyosis, which is endometriosis of the uterine muscle. Your uterine biopsy will give you a definitive diagnosis. If you have this disease you should seek treatment as soon as possible. Your endometrial thickening may also be due to adenomyosis.
