Fibroid Tumors, Endometriosis

Resides: England

Ever since the age of 14 I have experienced bothersome, painful periods, but in the last couple of years the pain had become progressively worse with each passing month. The pain was quite incredible – like a hot knife being driven in and it also became very difficult to move around. I found myself trying to keep as still as possible for 3-4 days of each menstruation. Also there was a heavy fatigue present most of the month and it started to feel like I had no life. Other women seemed to sail through their periods and I thought maybe I was just being a wimp!

Ultrasounds only showed up several small fibroids but I was convinced there was more going on internally. The only surgical options available were myomectomy and/or removal of any possible endometriosis (there was no way I could wanted a hysterectomy as I wished to preserve my female organs, and also knew of the problems associated with this surgery.) Each of these surgery options could only remove part of any problems that might be present and a myomectomy could involve a lot of blood loss, which was a concern as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses. What appealed with the FAS surgery was that not only was it blood-free but also it was the only option for removing all and every aspect of disease within the female reproductive system.

After scanning the website and testimonials I got in touch with the Program’s Nurse and she not only patiently answered all my questions but also put me in touch with other Witness patients whose positive experiences put my mind at rest. The next big decision was being able to fly all the way from the UK and I must admit this took some getting my head around!

My husband and I have never regretted the decision to go ahead with the surgery and it has been a turning point in my health. Following surgery and on the same day you are encouraged to get up and start moving. This really helps the healing process and amazingly I felt no pain! The nursing care at Temple Community is exceptional and the nurses cannot do enough to make you feel welcome and well cared for. Dr del Junco is a very kind and understanding doctor, always has the time of day for you, and his skill and experience at removing the disease is second to none. What also really impressed us is that he, along with his staff, are both very thorough and helpful with any post-operative care.

My periods are now very light and pain-free for the first time in 24 years! My energy levels have considerably increased and there is no longer that heavy fatigued feeling. It’s like the difference between night and day!

For anyone contemplating this surgery, although at first it may seem a huge step to take, I can assure you it will make a great difference to your life and health, and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it to anyone.
