Age: 48 years old
Resides: Washington stage
I’m 48 years “young” and I finished medical school before I ran away from Communism to Australia. We arrived in the USA because of my husband’s work commitment 3 years ago. I started in Nutrition and Health Psychology last year to better myself while I was sitting at home. Health is my passion, a lifelong commitment and I can navigate around the medical world with ease. At least, that is what I thought. All the above did not help much, when I started having bleeding problems last year. There was a chance I was already anemic, but I did not want to wait and see. I ran to fix the problem as soon as possible. I could not believe when the specialist suggested hysterectomy as a first choice for 4 fibroids. One year passed and I saw 4 OB/GYN Specialists with the same frustrating results. Before I found Dr. Del Junco’s website, I was bleeding very heavily every day. I was so weak that I spent most of the summer in bed running to the toilet hoping that the flooding would stop, so I wouldn’t end having to have an emergency Hysterectomy.
While researching the subject, I found the Hers Foundation’s website www.hersfoundation.com/effects.html. It was frightening to see the results of their research: 77.90% suffered personality changes, 55%.70 had difficulty recalling names after a Hysterectomy, others had profound fatigue. Obviously Hysterectomy did not sound like a solution to my problems.
I remember the day I found the FAS website. I was back from my PCP’s visit. My results were that although I was stuffing myself full of iron in any form I could find, including injections, I was given an ultimatum for surgery. I felt like an animal that had been pushed into the corner. I did not see a solution. After finding the website, my next step was to check out Doctor Del Junco’s credentials. It was all clear. No medial or private “monkey business” in California or Federally. I spent the whole night reading every section, every comment looking at every testimonial, every picture on his website. (You think you’re finicky – think again!) In the morning I sent my insurance details in my first letter to the Program Manager and I was ready to go.
Here are the facts I based my decision on the following:
The clean medical record of Dr. Del Junco.
Reading the detailed operation log.
I liked it straight away. His method is so brilliant. This is where my previous training helped. The problem with this type of operation is how to control bleeding and adhesion. Since Dr. Del Junco is a Surgeon and a vascular surgeon, he is using 3-4 methods not for controlling bleeding but PREVENTING it all together. And also uses 3-4 methods for adhesion prevention, not just uses surgical techniques but kept up with time and holds two specialties. He skillfully uses modern technology (lasers, key-hole surgery). I suggest that you ask your OB/GYN how she is planning to prevent bleeding and adhesion. Ask them to write it down for you so you can check it out. Do not let them mumble medical jargon under their breath. Also, ask them in writing about their expertise in key hole surgery and the sue of modern technology. You will be surprised at their reaction…
It is all OK for them to trash other people’s bright ideas and excellent work but when it comes to facts about their methodology, you might find that you will be asked to see the door. As you can tell, I’ve had some bad experiences…
The facts are that hysterectomy requires very little skills and professional development and might leave you with life long health problems as can be seen on the Hers Foundation’s website.
Finally, in the testimonial section, I saw the patients’ experiences line up with what is promised and written on the website. That was a huge factor that helped me to commit to Dr. Del Junco.
If you look at the procedure that Dr. Del Junco follows, it is a very open process; you can have you r family with you. I was hanging on my husband for full support and it made me feel extremely comfortable that he could be with me , so I wouldn’t have to be alone.
My experience with the operation:
Dr. DJ and his staff are very professional and kind as well. Once you go through the website you will have a clear idea about the whole process. They promptly answer your questions: they are there for you before the operation and after the operation. No hidden surprises. No hidden agenda. It is that simple and I know it is hard to believe. Dr. DJ works with his own team that gives more security for us, his patients. During my operation, Dr. DJ found 17 fibroids, endometriosis and an ovarian cyst.
I had my operation on Monday and by Saturday I was happily doing my walking exercises at the Glendale mall with a little backpack on my back. It was unreal. I was saved. I could never forget the time on the beach that first weekend, after the operation. Everything was so beautiful and sweet. I remember the smell of the ocean. The colors- I was living again. I was given a chance to get healthy and live my life to the fullest, not the chance to be chronically ill for the rest of my life as could happen after the Hysterectomy… I had absolutely no post-operative problems and I had no frequency at all. The result was instantaneous. I was bleeding and running to the toilet one day and not the next. Since the operation, I’ve had two normal periods in time and the amount of bleeding I had was laughable. I will have the second look laparoscopy soon and I start rebuilding my life. So this year, on Thanksgiving I quietly thanked God for my surgeon and his team who saved me from my misery and gave me a chance for a new beginning. Thank God and thank you Doctor Del Junco.
