Hello my name is Maria,

I was diagnose first with abnormal cells on my cervix there fore they did a laser removal of cells and a laparoscope because I was complaining about pain around my pelvic area. The doctor told me that I have endometriosis, also that I had 2 options. First to get pregnant that this one reduces the tissue to grow, 2nd to do a hysterectomy. Now my queston is that if iI have a hysterectomy will that get rid of my problem? Also will this leave me in a permanent state of menapause? I am only 28 years of age so wich choice is wiser to make?

I hope someone can answer these questions for me. Thank you very much.

Dear Maria-
There is no reason to have a hysterectomy at 28yo for a benign condition.
You do have another option..have the endometriosis treated. Many patients have their endo initially treated via laparoscope. If that is not totally effective due to a limited view of the pelvis, then an open surgery is recommended to look for implants all over the abdomen. Sometimes more than one treatment is necessary but that is far better than removing your uterus and having irreversible complications. Please do your research on hysterectomy-it is not always the “cure all”.
