I am currently 10-11 weeks pregnant. During my first intial visit with my OBGYN he performed an ultrasound. This is normally out of the ordinary but I informed him of very uncomfortable cramping particulary on the left side of my uterus.

When conducting the ultrasound, he found an ovarian cysts approx. 5×7 cm. Fortunately, at that time there was no visible indication of cancer. Although, he expressed a high degree of concern with the current size of the cyst. He scheduled to recheck the cyst in 4 weeks by performing another ultrasound later this month.

Q:
Having a cysts of this size or larger (with NO plan of removal during pregnancy),what advantages/disadvantages can come out of this for me & especially my PREGNANCY?

When should surgery be the only option to remove the cysts? And if these measures are taken, once again, what advantages/disadvantages can this cause me & especially my PREGNANCY?

Thank you in advance for your time & sharing with me any wealth of knowledge you may have regarding this topic.

Dear Mlally-
Many many women have fibroids and ovarian cysts while pregnant…sometimes they will grow more rapidly due to the hormone changes during pregnancy, but most women experience no difficulty due to this pathology.
We would not recommend surgery until after the delivery of your baby, unless there is a concern about a malignancy.
We would recommend observation of the cyst and treatment, if necessary, post delivery.
