have been experiencing a very sharp pain in my lower left abdomen for about a month. I first started getting the pain about 1 week prior to the start of my menstrual cycle. Since it is almost like a cramping pain I sometimes experience prior to menstruation, I attributed to my period. My period came and went and the pain continued. At some times it became unbearable to the point I was laying on the floor in tears. For three consecutive days, I woke up in the middle of the night and vomited. About 2 weeks ago I made an appoinment and went to my gyno. She did a transvaginal ultrasound and informed me it appeared I had a cyst that had burst, thus causing the pain. She said I have excess fluid and the pain should go away within a week. She prescribed neither a painkiller nor antibiotic. It has since been 2 weeks and I am still in exruciating pain. I called her and she stated that I will be fine. However, I am very worried as it seems everyday i am still in pain, even causing me not to go to work for 2 days. Does this sound normal that she did not prescribe any medication and told me to wait it out or should I seek another opinion? Is it normal for a cyst that burst to cause this much pain, especially for over a month? Should I be concerned that it may be somehing else? I am at ends and sic my doctor has told me to calm down and I will be fine I feel as though I have no one to help me feel at ease.

Dear Jennifer-
Rupturing ovarian cysts are extemely painful and usually produce pain for 24-72 hours. If you have fluid in your pelvis..this will continue to produce pain until the fluid is absorbed by the body. Having pain for one month is not normal, and you may have other cysts. You may want to get a second opinion…just to make sure.
