My daughter has fibroid tumors, when she has a period she bleeds heavy for days and into weeks, when she was 11 they had to give her blood. she had lost so much from bleeding, nobody will tell us what to do ….. birth control has not worked it will regulate her for about 3 months then she will totally stop having peroids…. after about 3 more months she will stop the pills…… go back to the docotors to get a new kind and go throught the same routine…… she is bloated and has bad headaches. she is getting so depressed over this…. is a hysterectomy in the future for this girl? or is their alternative ways?

Dear jcannell-
Your daughter should not need a hysterectomy if the disease is treated early. The problem with fibroids is they are allowed to grow and develop over time…when patients follow the “wait and see” philosophy the fibroids become so large, removing them can become very difficult. Your daughter definitely needs surgery and the sooner the better…do not delay. We operated on a 22yo from Alaska who was also bleeding very heavily and was advised to have a hysterectomy….she is feeling great and is having no symptoms. I know our FAS procedure can help her…good luck
