Hello again,
I had symptoms (bleeding after intercourse and pain) and had a pap done. That came back abnormal and then I had a colposcopy with biopsies
(that came back suspicious but inconclusive). Last, I had a conization and that showed the 1mm invasion of Adenocarcinoma. I have had 2 pathologists from different hospitals (and cities) view the slides and both had the same diagnosis. I have also had a consult and exam by a Gynecological Oncologist and his recommendation was immediate hysterectomy. My Gyn asked him about doing another Cone as treatment and he said that I would be taking a big risk if I did that. I’m not willing to risk my life because I already have a son that I need to stick around for. I have read the story of a woman who had a second cone done that showed no evidence of invasion (her first cone did). She didn’t have a hysterectomy and is doing fine and expecting a child. I think I’m grasping at straws because the Gyn/Onc felt that another cone would cause an incompetant cervix anyway and therefore would not save fertility. If there is anyway to save my life and also my fertility I would do it in an instant. Do you have an opinion on this? Thanks…..

Dear Susan-It sounds as if you and your doctor have been very thorough. This again is a personal decision.
If you really want to make sure of the diagnosis-have another cone biopsy. If it is positive you know without a doubt that you need a hysterectomy; if it comes back negative you can still contemplate another child, as an incompetent cervix can often be treated with a cervical cerclage procedure. Talk to your gynecologist. Good Luck.
