I need advice…I have a large ovarian cyst 12cm in the abdominopelvic region, and another cyst on my left ovary about 8cm. The report suggested it might be a Cystic Dermoid. The doctor recommend that I remove my uterus and both ovaries. His reasons are the cysts can return or I might be at risk for uterine or ovarian cancer later on in life. What would you recommend? His last suggestion is i only remove the ovary and tube. I am scheduled to have surgery in a couple of weeks. Thank you for this web site.

Dear Lynnshah-
Dermoids do need to be removed due to the potential for malignancy, however if they are removed correctly, that is in total-capsule and all, your chances of any future malignancy are no greater than anyone else. Ovarian cancer tends to run in families and is very rare.
They should be able to remove both your cysts, and if benign, save both your ovaries. I would not consent to any organ removal, unless they have a diagnosis of cancer.
Good luck
