I hope you can help. I am at a loss. I just turned 45. I have over a dozen fiboids, my uterus is the size of 7 month preg. and I now have a distended abdomin. My periods are very heavy and I have a clotting disease. I was suppose to start on HRT’s and found they too cause clots so I can’t do that. I am getting bigger by the week. I have to have MRI’s and Sono’s every 4 months to chart the growth.

Do fibroids stop growing after “the change”???? WHAT are fiboids? I have an image that they are like blood filled balloons.

I have problems eating. I get FULL even after the smallest meal, I have been to a GI dr and all is clear there. He said it was the fibroids displacing the stomach. My obgyn thinks that is bunk. He said that your organs don’t get moved around. I SAID— HELLOOOOO– YOU STICK A TODDLER IN YOUR ABDOMIN AND YOU TELL ME YOU DON’T FEEL BLOATED!!!!

please help.

Dear Marvella-
Fibroids are benign tumors of the uterus….the etiology is unknown. They are hormone dependent and grow with every menstrual cycle….once a women reaches menopause the tumors will shrink some due to the lack of estrogen. However, if you begin any type of hormone replacement therapy the tumors will begin to regrow and spread. We do not recommend waiting for menopause..have them removed.

Dear Marvella-
Forgot to mention…you can have GI problems the larger the tumors become. Many of our patients report indigestion, inability to eat large meals, and constipation with fibroids. It is just like carrying a baby..the larger the tumors get, the more space is taken up in the pelvic cavity. Eventually, GI problems are very common with fibroid tumors.
