It needs to come out?

I recently turned 43 and visited a gyn for the first time last week. My family doctor had told me that my womb was about 26 weeks (?) pregnancy size and extends to just below my navel which I can feel for myself that it does. The gyn first met with me in his office and without so much as any type of medical exam – walked in – said – “that’s big – it needs to come out”. When I asked about removing just the tumors he kept bringing up the fact that it was a “very bloody surgery” and that it would be more expensive.
I am having no pain, other problems or discomfort, and although my periods are heavy and last nearly a week as they have since I started at 12 or 13, they are fairly regular. I am however tired of looking five months pregnant which he told me was really a non issue. Since I have always had a 24 to 26 inch waist and a flat stomach I tend to disagree.
My aunt told me that my cousin, two years younger than I had this procedure and I started digging on the web and found your web site. How long does it normally take to get in to see you and what type of a wait before surgery? My aunt and uncle and some of my cousins live in Oxnard, however, I live in Missouri which might require multiple trips. I would also have concerns since the end of the year is approaching and my deductible starts all over on January 1 even if it is for the same illness/procedure.

Dear Donna-
Our waiting period is approximately 4-6 weeks, depending on the time of year. You will need to check with my office staff for current availability.
All of our patients have come from gyns who have recommended hysterectomy…obviously we dont advocate that philosophy. Give me office a call, I know we can help you.

Donna,

You sound like me, during my visits to my ex-gyn! Don’t even think twice about FAS – go for it and don’t look back! Probably, a change of gyn might be in order too…In my case, I was told that “meatball” surgery was in store for me if I insisted in keeping my organs, so I was given great advice in having a hysterectomy…at a discount!
I know my fellow FAS sisters will agree with me: you are in the right place at the right time – the doctor’s golden hands will take care of the rest.

Relax and good luck!

Mica
