In most everything I ready about fibroids the symptoms of heavy periods and cramping seem to be the biggest problem. I have fibroids as well as the heavy bleeding and cramping, but the main reason I’m considering a myomectomy is because the biggest problem I have is urinary incontinence. I’m told my uterus is the size of a woman 3 months pregnant and that I have one fibroid pressing on my bladder. The incontinence problem has been increasing over the years as the fibroids grow. I have been to several the urology doctors, had all the tests, and there is nothing wrong – so it really is the heavy uterus pressing on my bladder. (I also do kegel excercises). My questions, though, are: How come you don’t read about this as one of the problems of fibroids. How common are urinary problems as a result of fibroids (enlarged uterus)? What is your experience in urinary problems being “cured” or helped by the removal of fibroids?

Dear NSO-
Urinary incontinence is one of the most common symptoms…especially as the tumors get larger. Many women have fibroids and do not have bleeding or cramping issues.
IF everything else checks out normal, once the tumors are removed the urinary issues should be resolved.
