I just want to let you know I feel wonderful!

Hello Dr. DJ:

I just want to let you know I feel wonderful! I am
walking between 4-6 hrs a week and my estimate is about 8-12 miles. I must add 120 crunches and sit-ups to this. Not bad, considering I couldn’t even do half of all this 2 months ago before my surgery.

How can I be so lucky to have found so many great people in LA. Well, if anyone needs to ask me questions, I’ll be happy to be of service!

Best Regards,

Michaela

Michaela,

What surgery did you have? Just two months ago?

Michaela

Dear Sherri:

My surgery was extensive, Dr. del Junco Jr. removed 37 fibroids, 2 ovarian cysts, one endometrial polyp and endometriosis. I had no idea how bad I was feeling until now, when I am normal again. Even though I was in good physical condition before surgery, now I feel like a have a new lease on life. I am not exaggerating. I vaguely remember my previous hemorrage, pills and endless ultrasound tests with the usual diagnosis: hysterectomy. It’s all in the past.
I have to tell you that everyone at the Institute for Female Alternative Medicine is as competent and helpful as the staff at Temple Hospital. In case you need to consider alternatives to hysterectomy, all you have to do is call. You will be pleasantly surprised.
I have to say that after 2 months from surgery my cycle is back to normal and I just got back from my walk – standard 2 hours! I already went dancing and have started golf lessons.
And the best news of all: insurance covered most of the procedure — I know in Mexico I would have had to come up with the cash with no liability recourse, and I was not willing to do this. It is of little consequence to me whether the surgeon’s name starts with an H or any other letter because I was trained in science, chemistry to be exact, and I know you can only have so many logical ways to perform related procedures. Therefore I had to come to the conclusion that California was the best course of action for me, without a doubt.

If you need more details, I’ll be happy to offer them to you via this bulletin board, for everyone’s benefit.

Regards,

Michaela

Dear Michaela, I am also in your previous situation with the fibroids and in need of something to help.I would like to know how you felt two weeks after you surgery. I been told that the recovery is similar to traditional hysterectomy. Was that true for you?Thank you LaVieta

Dear LaVieta:
Let me put it this way: 5 days after surgery I was
still in CA, and I went for a walk and shopping
at the nearby mall (I stayed in Glendale) for two
hours. I even had a friend from my current state
of residence visit me, and she and her sisters
couldn’t believe their eyes. They thought I was
“sick”, and therefore in need of someone to “carry” me, and instead I was having fun!
The week after, meaning 10 days after surgery I left CA and arrived home. I went food shopping, on
foot, luckily I live close to the supermarket, I
went again to the mall. Someone had to drive me, and help me out of the car, but otherwise I looked and acted normal.
I do have a couple of friends who had hysterectomy, and they told me it took them 5-6 weeks just to have enough stamina to take a shower. Remember that fatigue is related to blood
loss and my surgery was practically bloodless, as the tests indicated postop. In any event, my local
obgyn was totally amazed how I healed after only a
month, and now, after 3 months I can do just about anything physically, short of lifting more than 40
lbs. And I do have 2 flights of stairs to deal with everyday, and grass to mow!
If you hesitated to do something up till now, I can assure you – just take the plunge and get your life back. Regards, Michaela

Dear Michaela,Your message was will received as it helped me to see that this is the way to go.I am so tired of not feeling good with so many mood swings. Are you on any hormone therapy at the present time to balance your hormones?I just have to plan and get on with my life. Thank you for answering me so soon. I let you know when I am going. Regards,LaVieta

Dear LaVieta:
Great to hear from you. I was on a 3 month natural hormone replacement, but not any more. I remember immediately after the surgery my period “tried” to be normal, to the extent that I had a “tiny” PMS, but hardly any discharge, mainly because tissues were “scraped”. The second month my period was almost normal, and the third month it was like during the good old days, when I used to have 3-day periods. Well, all is well that ends well.
Please let me know your schedule, or if you need
extra “tips”, just ask. You’ll know you are well when you can go on for hours without even a worrisome thought. Regards, Michaela

Dear Ann:

As I had mentioned to you, my insurance is OhioHealth and they covered FAS no questions asked. Out-of-network conditions were met, so they covered me at approx 70% (some items 60%, some other 80%). Basically, I needed my deductible for the hospital and the out-of-pocket for the doctor, and they covered the rest. BUT, I cannot overemphasize it, please ask Dr. DJ’s office to discuss these matters with insurance people. Not everyone is knowledgeable enough to understand the procedure, i.e. telephone operators!

Good luck and keep me posted of progress,
Mica

Dear Michaela,
What insurance coverage did you have? I have Kaiser and am considering changing insurance if an insurance change would help cover the costs of FAS. I previously had a myomectomy for multiple fibroids Jan 6, 1999. Now I have a cyst the size of a baseball and several small fibroids are present. My doctor is hinting at hysterectomy which I DO NOT WANT!
