Dea Dr DJ,
Would please share your opinion on the GnHR agonists in treating middle size fibroids? Is the effect permanent or the shrinkage is just temporary? Are there many dangerous side-effects? What about specifically nasal Suprefact?
Thank you in advance

Dear BSi-
My practice does not recommend this type of treatment for fibroids….they have no long term success. Fibroids are a surgical disease and should be removed. Your tumors may shrink while on the drug, but once off, they will begin to grow again.
Side effects are consist with menopause, however the most concerning is the long term effects on hormone regulation, especially over the age of 40. These drugs can permanently effect the ovaries in a negative way..and hormone production sometimes never returns to normal levels after the medication. This is one of the reasons I never recommend patients take this form of treatment.
Dont take the bandaid approach….have your fibroids removed.
