Hi ,

I am a 22yr old from Florida I just recently found out that I have several fibroid tumors one the size of a golf ball.. and I also have a simple cyst on my left ovary I have quite a few of the symptoms from the fiborids but, nothing unbearable … My main concern is having children which is something I really want However, at the doctor the other day she said she wasn’t really concerned with treating them right now because my symptoms weren’t that bad however I dont want to be 25 and ready for kids and find out that we have waited to long to treat the tumors… So what would you recommend that I do?

Confused and Worried in Florida,
Shinoia

Dear Shinoia-
Many women can get pregnant and carry a fetus to term with fibroids…this is totally dependent on the size the location of the tumors. Your doctor should have an idea of where they are located based on your diagnostic test results. Ask him/her if they are in an area that could produce fertility concerns….ask if they could be removed without difficulty, while preserving your fertility option.
We usually do not recommend patients delay surgery, once they have a confirmed diagnosis..it only allows the fibroids more time to grow and spread. However, removing tumors will produce some uterine scaring…
Since your tumors are already the size of golf balls and you have multiple….we would recommend attempting to get pregnant asap, not waiting much longer.
Good luck

Hi, I am a 34 year old female and have been diagnosed with fibroid tumors. I have all the popular symptoms, but also am having a problem with large amounts of discharge. I have went to the doctor many times and they tell me I do not have a std. I am concerned. Does any one else have this same symptom? Please help.

Dear Blueeye-
Excessive discharge can be associated with fibroid tumors or uterine endometriosis. Either way, you should have the tumors taken care of. The longer you wait, the worse your symptoms will become.
