Fibroids & blood on the ovaries?

Hi,

I am 48 and just had an ultrasound today which showed I have multiple fibroids — one which is 6mm and blood on both ovaries.

So far, I haven’t had bad cramps and sex hasn’t been painful. I went in for the test because I missed my period last month and this month, my abdomen really started swelling up. (I’ve always had pretty regular periods.) There was pain/pressure and sometimes a burning sensation in my lower right abdomen which made it difficult to sit for very long. And now, it seems that I may miss another period even though my body shows all the premenstral symptoms.

My question is: what does blood on the ovaries mean? Is it possible for the fibroid to block the flow of blood, causing the blood to flow back onto the ovary?

Dear Melissa-
We are not sure of what you mean when you say “blood on the ovaries”…we would need more technical information, like a copy of your ultrasound report, in order to advise your appropriately.
