I have been told by two different doctors that I should consider having a hysterectomy. I have large fibroid tumors that cause heavy bleeding, and have become anemic at times during my period. I’m not able to take estrogen, because of a history of blood clots. I also have the hp virus, and have not had a normal pap for the last 4 years. I’m am very concerned about cervical cancer. Are there alternative treatments for these conditions?

Dear Shale-
FAS is a procedure that can help your fibroid tumors and relieve your symptoms of heavy bleeding and clotting. This is a typical scenario for which FAS was developed.
Your concern with HPV are valid, as are your physicians concerns. Having an abnormal pap smear with HPV is expected. You should continue to closely monitor your pap smear results, but as the situation presently exists, I would NOT recommend a hysterectomy. If you have any further questions regarding the FAS procedure, refer to the website section FAS vs. Myomectomy.
