Fibroid Pain

I am 47 yrs old. My surgeries include three c-sections, a tubal, gallbladder removal, endometrial ablation 2 yrs ago, appendix removed 10 months ago. Now I have been diagnosed with a fibroid. I am in constant throbbing pain in my right side shooting down my leg. My doctor said it was in a degenerative state and leaking fluid which is causing the pain. He also suggested pain therapy until menopause. He gave me pain pills (vicodin) that doesn’t help. Two Aleve’s work better. Please explain what the fluid and degenerative state mean. What options do I have other than a major surgery again? I don’t think I can deal with the pain until menopause since I am only 47.

Dear Cheryl-
Thank you for your posting.
Degenerating fibroids are those that are beginning to out grow their blood supply. As the nourishment to the fibroid decreases, the tumor begins to die. This creates pain. We do not recommend these fibroids remain untreated..they should be surgically removed. We have never heard of a fibroid “leaking fluid”.
We would recommend a second opinion.
Good luck
