To: Dr. del Junco Jr.

I am 44 years old and have 2 fibroids and I wanting to get pregnat. The one fibroid is large (size?)in the uterine wall. I have had 2 laparoscopy type surgeries. I am experiencing long periods, large clots and am anemic. My doctor has given me several choices. Myomectomy being the first choice. If I choose not to get pregnant, scraping of the uterus and embolient. I prefer not to have any sugery, but that is not looking possible. My FSH level is too high, so IVF with donated eggs is what is recommended. It sounds like FAS would solve my fibroid problem. Afterwards would I be able to proceed with IVF?

Sincerely,
Susanne

Dear Suzanne-
Unfortunately, fibroids usually require surgical intervention.
There is no reason why you could not go through IVF treatments post FAS. You would need to allow the uterus 1 full year to heal prior to starting IVF-the uterus must be completely healed from the reconstruction before a pregnancy can be attempted, and a c-section is mandatory for delivery.
