Dr. Del Junco, I was told that I have fibroids the size of a 4 mth pregnancy, and it shows. i had various ultrasounds done and the Dr. said that the fibroid(s)were so large that my ovaries were not visable. I am 34 yrs old and would like to have a child soon. My Dr. recommended a hysterectomy but then said she would try to do a mayomectomy, but with no gaurantees. In the process of scheduling the surgery, our insurance was changed from Kaiser to a ppo. What information, test, etc. do you need in order to determine possible candidate for FAS.

Dr. Del Junco, I have been having bleeding problems since mid December. I had an ultrasound done and three doctors should have looked at it, but none of them found my fibroid which was the size of a softball. I went in to have an endometrial ablasion, was put under, that is when they found the fibroid. Is this common? I am very concerned about what to do. My doctor said we could try hormones, or take it out (three procedures) or have my uterise removed. He then told me to go on line to find answers, which I did not like. I want someone to explain things to me. He seems too busy and does not want to take the time. Please advise.

Dear Judy-
A softball size fibroid should have been clearly seen on an ultrasound…I would suggest you get your films and seek a consultation with another physician. Good luck.
