Dear Dr. del Junco,

I can’t tell you how excited I am to have found your site.

I have fybroid tumors – an ultrasound revealed as many as 14 or more. My Dr. said my uterus is about the size of a medium melon.

I am deathy allergic to traditional anesthesia, (I found this out after sinus surgery)as a result, have put off having a hysterectomy for about 4 years now.

My only symptoms are heavy periods and I’m anemic.

My biggest concern is that due to the size of my uterus, the ultrasound was unable to find my ovaries. I guess my question is – is it common to find problems with the ovaries, such as cancer, with fybroid tumors?

Thanks in advance for your response.

Dear Paula-
There is no association between benign fibroids and malignant ovarian tumors. Ovarian cancer is rare and had a propensity to be genetically related.
If you have our FAS procedure we will check your ovaries for any pathology at the time of the surgery.
