Any hope if Cancer is involved?

I’m pretty sure I know the answer already but just have to ask. I’m only 28 and have been diagnosed with microinvasive (1mm) adenocarcinoma of the cervix. I was hoping to become pregnant when I was diagnosed and now, of course, I’m told there is no hope. I’m scheduled for a hysterectomy next month and am completely devastated. Is there any hope?

Dear Susan-
This is a very difficult situation. I need to know more information in order to advise your appropriately.
How was this diagnosis made-did you have a pap smear or a cone biopsy? Have the tests been repeated to verify the diagnosis of cancer? Finally, have you sought a second opinion?
Normally, cancer of the cervix does require a hysterectomy, but one should ALWAYS make sure there is no chance of clinical error before having irreversible surgery, especially with someone your age.
Also, keep in mind, if you still want your own children, your eggs can be harvested and a surrogate mother used. This is not the norm, but it is an option.
