I was diagnosed with endometriosis about
5years ago and adenomyosis a few months
ago and have had three laparoscopies over
the last few years I have recently changed
specialists as I felt the one I was seeing was
not doing enough to help me. the new DR
found the adenomyosis covering half my
uterus and small ovaries, he couldnt clearly
see the right ovary on the ultrasound. I am
26yo and have horribly painful periods, pain
most of te time even without my period, terrible
mood swings and have had just about
enough of it all, I am very confused as to how
this can all be treated and if I will be able to
have children when I am ready to. My new Dr
seems great is doing many tests and a
tracking cycle at the moment but have always
wanted children but not in a position to at the
moment. I contacted the old DR he says I
need a hysterectomywill never see him again
now what can be done???????????
Thanks Camille

Dear Camille-
For any and all of my patients that are diagnosed with adenomyosis…I recommend to try to have children immediately!!! This disease is progressive and will damage the uterus over time. Unfortunately, the classic treatment for this condition is hysterectomy, as your original gyn recommended. However, we do perform our laser FAS procedure, which removes the bulk of the disease, minimizing the periods and virtually eliminating the pain; however the procedure renders the patient infertile. FAS allows the woman to keep her uterus for normal hormone balance and sexual functioning but if too much of the uterus is damaged by the adeno, fertility if not possible.
You have a difficult decision to make….

I have a daughter that has just turned 16 and has stomach pain since last summer, they think she may have irritable bowel syndrome, but she is worst befroe, during and for a week after her problem. During that time she has a pain in her lower left side in the area of her ovary. She has never had a regular menstral cycle for very long on her own, twice her former doctor has put her on alyesse(birth control to regulate her cycle). Which would work and than take her off and see if her system would work on it’s own. She is in grade 10 and this started in grade 7. Could this be the beginning of endometriosis. She had an ultra sound of both the digestive system and female organs but nothing showed up. This is destroying her she has gone from athelte of the year with an 78%+ average to a young girl who walks like a 60 -70 + old woman (hunched over and in pain). She is in pain worst in the a.m. and now is taking science by cyber, and missed an extreme amount of school this year because of it. She is afriad of failing and has had to drop band because she can’t get to the 8 a.m. classes. Presently she is being treated for IBS and the drugs don’t seem to help, she has just started a different medication. A very concerned parent for a some points she has stated it would be better to be dead, she doesn’t want to be involved in anything, from sports (volleyball, basketball, bowling, badmiton, track& field, softball, golfing, or music(voice/piano/clarinet).
The school has finally excepted that she is sick and not being a lazy kid, which she isn’t and has never been. This year she didn’t play basketball or track for she felt that she couldn’t handle the running with the pain in her abdomin.

Dear Bear 386-
I am sorry for the delay in responding…somehow your posting got lost our system.
Your daughter could very well be experiencing endometriosis…the longer you wait the more the condition will spread.
I strongly recommend a laparoscopy, and it should be done at the time that correlates with her worst pain.
Find a physician who has extensive experience with endo and the ability to locate it throughout the entire pelvis.
Good Luck
