I just found out that I once again have an ovarian cyst. This is my 4th cyst and I am only 30. The doctor told me after my last surgery that if it came back again, they would remove my ovary. Is this a major surgery or can it be done laparscopically (sp)? How long will I be “laid up?” All cysts have been on the left ovary and were about the size of a grapefruit, this one is only about 2.8 cm or 1 inch. Thank you

Dear Tracey-
You are far too young to have your ovary removed. Recurrent cysts can be associated with hormone imbalance. Before removing an organ, have your hormone levels checked. I would advise you to have the cyst removed in an open procedure with a laser to make sure that none of the cyst or fragments of it are left behind to regrow. It will take a longer recovery, however may save you from losing your ovary. Good Luck
