Nine (9) pound fibroid tumor, Uterine Prolapse,
Ventral & Umbilical Hernias
Age: 60 years
Resides: New York
Everything about my Female Alternative Surgery was a positive
experience.
My time PRIOR to meeting Dr. del Junco Jr., when I didn't know there were alternatives
to hysterectomy, was painful and long.
Life Changing Discovery: From the moment I landed on Dr. del Junco Jr.'s website,
I KNEW I had finally found a voice of reason and caring. To also find a solution
for a huge fibroid that would leave my female organs intact seemed a miracle!
(I was particularly relieved to see testimonials from older women as I had just
turned 60, as well as seeing a picture of a removed basketball-sized fibroid,
since I knew mine was definitely very large.)
Surgery Dates are Finalized: The next steps entailed e-mails and
phone calls with the IFAM Clinic and Patricia Marshall, RN, who
has to be one of the most friendly and efficient people one could
hope to deal with in such an important matter. She did all the
necessary follow-throughs regarding insurance, leave of absence
from work and scheduling, and was quick to respond to all questions
thoughtfully.
Pre-Op with Dr. del Junco Jr.: Finally I was off to Glendale,
California (from NYC) for the first meeting with Dr. del Junco
Jr. Walking into his clinic and meeting him and his staff finally
put me at ease. Everything was explained to me by this warm and
articulate doctor and I left with no qualms whatsoever about the
upcoming procedure. I felt only extreme confidence in my decision
after meeting Dr. del Junco Jr. and placed my problem willingly
in his hands.
Pre-Op at Temple Community Hospital: Next, it was over to Temple
Community Hospital for the necessary pre-admission medical tests
and final clearance for surgery by the hospital internist. The
Hospital is not large and is surrounded by trees on a hill, , with
a view to the Hollywood Hills.
Everyone at the hospital was very friendly and I learned more about
what to expect upon admission and post-surgery. I also met with
the anesthesiologist who spent a long time with me explaining my
options.
Hospital Admission and Surgery: Probably
one of the most remarkable aspects of the surgery was that my
family could and did watch it on closed circuit TV. I also watched
the surgery several days later on video, many times. (I've read
that some of Dr. del Junco Jr.s patients who opt for the epidural
actually watch the procedure as it is happening; however, I elected
to have traditional anesthesia). This seems just one more indication
of the empowerment and caring that Dr. del Junco Jr. gives to
his patients. It was a humbling and powerful experience for my
family and I that they were able to "be there" during
the surgery; it made the operation so much more personalized.
The private room with a bed (and meals) for a family member was
attractive and the friendly nurses made us feel very welcome.
The nurses are specialized in post-surgical care-and believe
me, the patient realizes and appreciates this.
Recovery and Home: I am energized and unencumbered and have my
life back!
By the last day in the hospital, I was taking care of myself unattended.
After checking out of the hospital, I took the train to San Diego
where I stayed with family. Ten days after surgery, I took the
train back up to Glendale for my final visit with Dr. del Junco
Jr. and then flew home to New York City.
A THANK YOU in Closing: There aren't words sufficient enough to
thank
Dr. del Junco Jr. or to express gratitude for his development of
an alternative to hysterectomy. I will continue to recommend, unequivocally,
that every woman with a female problem requiring surgery try her
best to find a way to go to the Institute for Female Alternative
Medicine and Dr. del Junco Jr. for resolution.
That's all for now. From a recently begun-to-smile-again, thankful,
intact female.
