Large Fibroid - 36 week size
Age: 37 years
Resides: Amman, Jordan
Special Circumstances: Cannot receive Blood Transfusions

In June of 1997 during a routine check-up, my physician said,"You are too late."
I didn't know what he was talking about, nor did I have the slightest idea that these words would start me on a long journey with something inside me called "Fibroids."

The CT Scan and ultrasound identified a mass in my uterus. Doctors gave me different opinions. One told me "I don't know exactly what I'll have to do until I open your abdomen and find out." This was enough to scare me into never seeing any of these doctors again.
This experience left me depressed and hopeless, and even made me think that I might have only a couple of months,or even a couple of weeks to live.
In 2000, an article in a magazine about a new technique for treating fibroids called UAE/Uterine Artery Embolization caught my attention.I started searching the Internet and collecting more information about this technique. I decided that the UAE would be my last hope; however,
because of the size of my fibroids (about 36 weeks), the efficiency of the UAE treatment would be questionable. My only option according to a gynecologist in Jordan was to remove the uterus with surgery.
At that stage, a severe obstruction to the kidneys was observed, and the bowel was displaced to the left. These fibroids caused: Increased urinary frequency, bloating, stomach upsets, anemia, and an umbilical hernia, not to mention emotional tension, as my abdomen resembled a full term pregnancy and I am not married. I had to do something, but the idea of removing my uterus was devastating for me. I am also strongly against blood transfusion and as hysterectomy tends to be a bloody surgery, a solution to my health problem seemed impossible.

Then the unexpected happened. In March 2001, just two weeks before leaving to the United States to attend a conference , I discovered the website of "Female Alternative Surgery" (FAS), which details a procedure developed by Dr. Tirso del Junco Jr.; a doctor who has the mission of preserving the female organs while treating the different uterine and ovarian illnesses.
It seemed like destiny was helping me because Dr. del Junco Jr.'s institution is located in Los Angeles, California and my uncle also lives in LA. , He visited Dr. del Junco Jr.'s office for me, met the staff, and reported back all the information he could obtain about the surgical procedure. The excellent staff at the FAS institute clarified everything one needs to know.

Since I chose to havean epidural during the procedure, I was ableto watch Dr. del Junco Jr. skillfully remove my large fibroids and put my uterus back in place. The size and ugliness of my fibroids shocked me...as did the fact thatthey'd been inside my body all those years.

Laila

Since then Laila has visited us and written to our clinic. She says, "I am feeling great and wonderful like a new person. People around me say that I look 10 years younger. My gynecologist and GP told me that you deserve all the thanks and appreciation for the excellent job you've done for me. God Bless you."
