In July 2005, I was diagnosed with Fibroid Tumors, the treatment being a total Abdominal Hysterectomy. I was very disheartened by the prospect of having my uterus and cervix removed. I knew in my heart that it was not the right course of action for me and that I would feel unhappy after such a procedure. I had seen two Gynecologists and they both advocated the Hysterectomy. They dismissed my concerns out of hand, concerns related to how I would function physically and mentally in the aftermath. Neither doctor really discussed possible complications in detail. Additionally, in order to remove my enlarged uterus, a vertical incision would have to be made (a cut that would encompass almost my entire torso). The closer my surgery loomed, the more anxiety I had. I kept wondering why the Fibroids themselves couldn’t be remove and my organs spared. Yet when I attempted to discuss other procedures with my doctors, I got nowhere.

Two nights before my hysterectomy, I was researching Hysterectomies on the internet and I came across the institute for Female Alternative Medicine.  I felt as though I had been guided to this site. I remember reading these words “Before you have a Hysterectomy, talk to us. There is an alternative.” I spent hours reading the information provided, and I knew that I wanted to speak with these caring medical professionals.  My first contact was the Program Nurse. She was very knowledgeable about Fibroid Disease, and answered all of my questions. She was also compassionate and discussed the fact that it was possible to remove only the fibroids.

One week later, I was at the Institute. Whatever you ultimately decide, you owe it to yourself to visit the Institute. You will have a quality experience as a female patient seeking answers from a doctor. Dr. Del Junco will not dismiss your concerns, nor will he talk down to you. He will not usher you out of his office after 15 minutes. He will treat you with dignity and respect and take whatever time is necessary to answer your questions and educate you on the procedure. Every aspect of this experience was positive, including my recovery period. The staff at Temple Community Hospital was committed to my well being and sought to make my stay as comfortable as they could. After having undergone this surgery, I feel more hopeful and energetic towards the future. If you have discovered this website, there is a reason for it. Do not accept a Hysterectomy if that is not what you want. Contact the Institute . It’s a good decision.
